Yes! You can pin your 3D models and art into the real world.
Creative people work hard on their art; inspiration gives way to a need to create which leads to an obsessive energy and work that does not relent until the piece is done. And when it is done, it sits there, demanding to be seen.
Imagine if you will, that you as the creator had the ability to take your work and using your phone, pin it in the real world for anyone to see who may be happening by. Even more, imagine that you not only pinned your work in the world, but also marked it to be shared, so people from all around the world could take your art and pin it in their part of the world for other people to enjoy.
Knowing now that you can pin your work in the world with your phone, is there not a chance then that a location itself may lead to inspiration? Could it be that there is a particular place that comes mind that is missing a certain something, something that you can create?
Needless to say, we have no idea what you will make and geo pin in the real world, but we are very excited to find out!
AR Geo Pins for Everyone!
For those of us whose skill set leans away from the creative, we have options that can make sure we can join in on the Augmented Reality revolution and enjoy living in an AR world.
There are literally tens of thousands of 3D models to choose from using the built in Sketchfab browser that we can download for free; finding that perfect model to pin in just the right spot to garner maximum effect will be a breeze.
Remember, sometimes it’s not the model itself that is important, but rather the location that makes it special; geo pinning a large rose in your garden may not mean much, but pinning that same rose on the spot where you and your partner first met, now that may have a different effect when they see it.
Maybe there isn’t a special meaning for the geo pin, other than a dancing stormtrooper stood at the end your street makes you smile every time you walk past it, or knowing that there is a pterodactyl flying above your house just makes you feel good each time you get home.
Viewing AR Geo Pins in the real world is as easy as clicking the ‘Explore AR’ eye icon on the home screen. From there you will be taken to a map that will show all the Geo Pins around you for 1 kilometer (this updates as you move in the real world). Walking up to a red pin will take you to where the original geo pinner placed their model. Once the red pin turns green, you can tap it the model will spawn before you and displayed as the original geo pinner intended.
Once the geo pinned model is in the real world you can walk up to it, around it, explore inside if it was made to be explored. You can also like and comment on the geo pin right there in the real world location.
But there are no Geo Pins in my area!
Having no AR Geo Pins in your area should not be seen as a barren wasteland, but rather a fresh blank canvas; you have the app, you have the tools – get Geo Pinning!! It’s easy and great fun 🙂
